“Remembering September Eleventh”

A talk about how retired New York City Fireboat John J. Harvey was called back into service on 9/11 to work alongside active-duty FDNY boats. First JJH helped evacuate the 300,000 people who escaped Manhattan Island by boat. Then she returned to pump Hudson River water to firefighters on land, as fireboats provided the only water available on site for several days.

The Tugboat Roundup is a gathering of tugboats, workboats and barges to celebrate the maritime heritage of the Northeast Inland Waterways. The festival features a tug parade, tug tours, boat rides, tug talks, competitions, fireworks, children’s activities, vendors, food, and more. The Tugboat Roundup takes place annually the weekend after Labor Day.
