Russell Shorto and historians, including Jessica DuLong, Benjamin Carp, author of The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution and Barnet Schecter, author of George Washington’s America: A Biography Through His Maps, gathered aboard the Tall Ship Wavertree at the South Street Seaport Museum for a panel discussion on the beginnings of New Amsterdam and how the choices of the Dutch shaped what became New York.
