How to Write Panoramic Narrative: Capturing large-scale events
Fortellingens kraft 2021 (The Power of Storytelling 2021) gathers some of the best forces in the field of journalistic storytelling to give you inspiration, tools and sharpening skills as a narrator. This year’s event, September 24 – 26th, is the first physical journalism conference in Norway since the pandemic started. Featured speakers include: Jina Moore, Mark Kramer, Jacqui Banaszynski, Eli Saslow, Roy Peter Clark, Caryn Baird, David Wolf, and Jessica DuLong.
In most narrative nonfiction, close-ups stand in for the big picture. But what works when the big picture is the story — when the Titanic sinks, when the atomic bomb drops, when the floodwaters rise? Saved at the Seawall chronicles the boat lift that evacuated nearly half a million people from Manhattan Island on September 11, 2001. Author Jessica DuLong discusses the practical challenges of covering large-scale events, and shares specific strategies and techniques that work best for capturing panoramic narrative.
